“The Clean Up was born from a real disengagement from the local community and paddlers.” – Aaron Kendall
A Grassroots Effort with a Big Impact
In 2017, Aaron Kendall founded Dee Valley Clean Up with a singular mission: to unite the paddling and non-paddling communities of Llangollen, Denbighshire, Wales, and protect public access to the River Dee.
What started as a simple idea—a raft, a few friends, and a shared commitment to keeping the river clean—has now grown into a movement.
Making a Difference, One Clean-Up at a Time
Through regular clean-up events on the River Dee and surrounding hills, the initiative now draws hundreds of paddlers and volunteers. In partnership with organizations like Trash Free Trails, Aaron and his team are proving that giving back to our community and wild places is easier than we think.
“As long as you’re trying, something will happen. And even if it isn’t the exact thing you’re doing, the inspiration might be the thing that makes a difference.” – Rob Hirst, Dee Valley Clean Up
