Africa by Kayak – 2000km around the southern tip of Africa

In 2007, Beau Miles attempted to paddle 4000 kilometers from one side of Africa to the other. Beau allowed five months to complete the voyage, which started in Mozambique before continuing along the South African coast. Joined by Jared Sharples of New Zealand, the pair experienced the magnificent coast until Jared, crippled with sickness, left the expedition. Beau paddled alone for six weeks, experiencing a truly nomadic, solo existence for the first time in his life. Beau completed 2000 kilometers of the original plan, realizing that his trip wasn’t about kilometers gained but the quality of the experience.
